A painting of mine got into a show and I just noticed a weakening and the beginning of tearing at the back/side of the canvas. Can this be repaired without strip lining? And if so, how.

Sorry but it is against MITRA’s policy to give advice on conservation treatments beyond preventive measures. Even though this is your own painting there are just too many chances of things getting worse when a conservation treatment is performed by those not trained in art conservation.
